Course description and objectives
The increasingly pervasive use of information technologies is progressively altering the rules of post-modern competition, causing a complex transformation in societies, businesses, industries, and competitive environments.
The strong increase of disruptive technological changes introduced by start-ups and innovative small and medium-sized enterprises, whose ambidexterity has completely changed the rules of R&D processes, is pushing all economic, social and institutional entities to develop dynamic capabilities able to support the processes of exploration and application of new knowledge, solutions and technologies. To this must be added the need to respond effectively to increasingly complex and diversified social needs. The growing demands of stakeholders, in particular, have generated the awareness that a competitive model based solely on maximizing production capacity and reducing costs can only generate a temporary advantage.
CAs provided for in the Fair and Sustainable Wellbeing (Bes) Framework promoted by ISTAT and also considered in the Economic and Financial Documents following the approval of Law 163/2016, research and innovation are an indirect determinant of well-being and underpin social and economic progress. Consistently, recalling the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC), the sustainable management of Research and Development processes and, in particular, technology transfer, can be the main driver of change, giving rise to a new managerial and social paradigm defined by the literature as "Sustainable Innovation".
Starting from this premise, the PhD aims to deepen a central theme represented by the combination of innovation - sustainability, understood as a multidimensional expression of interconnected phenomena and intrinsically open to multidisciplinary approaches.
To this end, the course aims to promote an innovative, international and interdisciplinary training and basic and applied research on the management of sustainable innovation, and on the optimization of technology transfer processes and knowledge between universities, businesses, institutions and non-profit organizations.
The multidisciplinary nature of the course, ensured by the combined efforts of teaching staff and researchers from different SSD, through diversified and integrated cognitive and methodological tools, provides an appropriate approach to the topic, which can be addressed from multiple points of view, as identified in the different lines of research that the PhD proposes.
In particular, 5 main research lines are identified:
- Research Line 1| Innovation Management in Knowledge ecosystems;
- Research Line 2| Sustainable innovation impact assessment;
- Research Line 3| Research and Development, Technology transfer and Foresight;
- Research Line 4| Collaborative platforms for Sustainability Innovation;
- Research Line 5| Sustainable Innovation Governance and Local Economic Development.
