Alberto Alfano, fixed-term researcher, SSD BIO/10 at University of Campania Luigi Vanvitelli.  Degree in Molecular and Industrial Biotechnology at the Faculty of Biotechnological Sciences of the University of Naples Federico II in 2007 and PhD in ‘Biomedical Technologies Applied to Odontostomatological Sciences’ in 2011 (Second University of Naples, now University of Campania Luigi Vanvitelli).

Holder, from 2022 to the present day, of lectures in Industrial Biochemistry and Biotechnological processes for the Degree course Molecular Biotechnology and in Biological Sciences, Biochemistry module, for the Degree Course Prevention techniques in the environment and workplace. Previously, he was a teaching assistant within the framework of the Biological Chemistry of Fermentation course and has been collaborating since 2011 in the Pharmacy degree course as part of the Advanced Biochemistry examination and in the Biotechnology degree course for tutorials and supplementary lectures.

Expert in design, development and characterisation of biotechnological processes for biomedical applications with special reference to fermentation in bioreactors and purification by membrane systems (micro-ultra-nano filtration and dialysis).

He authored 23 original research articles (in peer-reviewed journals with impact factor), many of which have attracted industrial interest, leading to collaborations with national and international biotechnology and healthcare companies. Winner of a research prize at an international congress. He took part in several national research projects funded by MIUR, and was scientific advisor for a project funded by the University.

He was personally involved in the transfer of a technological process for the production and purification of polysaccharides of application interest from laboratory to industrial scale at IBSA China. He is a regular contributor to international and national conferences with a focus on biotechnological processes for the production and purification of products of nutraceutical, cosmeceutical and pharmaceutical interest (polysaccharides, proteins, probiotics, etc.) and of processes for the valorisation of industrial waste products (green topics).
