Amarildo Smakaj is a fixed-term researcher in Orthopedics and Traumatology (MED/19A, Diseases of the Musculoskeletal System) at Link Campus University in Rome. He carries out clinical and surgical activities at the Bambino Gesù Pediatric Hospital – Gianicolo site, in the Traumatology and Specialist Orthopedic Surgery Unit. He graduated with honors in Medicine and Surgery from the University of L'Aquila and attained a specialization in Orthopedics and Traumatology at the Catholic University of the Sacred Heart - Agostino Gemelli Polyclinic, also with honors. He is currently pursuing a PhD in Medical-Surgical Biotechnology and Translational Medicine at the University of Rome Tor Vergata.
He completed a II Level Master in Orthoplastics and attained a Diploma in Microsurgical Techniques from the Italian Society of Microsurgery (SIM). Furthermore, he completed the AO courses (basic, advanced, and Master's in the pelvis) and the entire EPOS BAT Trilogy program, attaining a Diploma in Pediatric Orthopedics.
He is a member of SIOT (Italian Society of Orthopaedics and Traumatology), where he is part of the Committee on Bone Fragility, a member of AO Trauma, the Italian Society of Microsurgery (SIM), and the European Paediatric Orthopaedic Society (EPOS). Since 2023, he has been an Editorial Board Member of the Journal of Orthopaedics (Elsevier), BMC Surgery, and BMC Musculoskeletal Disorders.
He carries out academic activities as an adjunct professor of Musculoskeletal Diseases at the Catholic University “Our Lady of Good Counsel” in Albania.
His main areas of research include complex traumatology in adults and pediatric patients, orthopedic techniques, reconstructive microsurgery in orthopedics, and pediatric oncological orthopedics.
He is a member of the Italian Society of Orthopedics and Traumatology (SIOT) and the Italian Society of Pediatric Orthopedics (ISPO).
OFFICE HOURS
The professor is available to receive the students at the end of the lessons. However, the students may also request an appointment by email.
