Associate Professor of Diseases of the Visual System at Link Campus University. In 2006, he attained a Master’s Degree in Medicine and Surgery at the Second University of Naples. Subsequently, in 2011, he completed his residency in Ophthalmology at the Department of Ophthalmology of the Second University of Naples, and in 2014, he earned his Ph.D. in Pharmacological Sciences and Clinical and Experimental Medicine, 27th cycle.
His main areas of interest and research focus on the study of new systemic and ocular biomarkers in major retinal diseases such as: diabetic retinopathy, age-related macular degeneration, uveitis, retinal vascular occlusions, and inherited retinal dystrophies.
Furthermore, he focused on the study of the molecular pathways involved in the pathogenesis of uveitis in validated animal models, with the aim of identifying new molecules capable of preventing and/or slowing the progression of uveitis
In 2017, he was awarded a research fellowship at the Biometec Department of Biomedical and Biotechnological Sciences at the University of Catania as part of the project: “Analysis of the differential expression of miRNAs involved in diabetic retinopathy.”
In 2018, he attained an annual research grant from the Department of Ophthalmology at the University of Campania L. Vanvitelli as part of the PRIN2015 project, titled: “Early Neuroprotective and Anti-Inflammatory Treatment to Prevent the Development of Diabetic Retinopathy”
Since 2008, he has periodically conducted research at the Department of Veterinary Morphophysiology and Animal Production of the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine at the University of Bologna, studying various viral vectors in animal models that can be administered via subretinal injection for the gene therapy of the major inherited retinal dystrophies in humans.
From 16 October 2020, to 15 October 2025, he served as a Type A Fixed-Term Researcher (RTDA) in the Multidisciplinary Department of Medical, Surgical, and Dental Specialties, Ophthalmology Section, at the University of Campania L. Vanvitelli, for the project titled: “New pharmacological targets to cure disabling retinal diseases”
He participated in several national and international research projects and is the author of many scientific publications in indexed international journals. He has presented at numerous national and international conferences. He is a member of the Italian Society of Ophthalmological Sciences and the Italian Retina Society.
From 16 April 2021, to 15 October 2025, he served as Medical Director at the Ophthalmology Department of the L. Vanvitelli University Hospital, focusing in particular on: cataract surgery, vitreoretinal surgery, the Medical Retina Clinic, laser therapy, and fluorescein angiography.
