Prof. Francesco Zampognaro is Associate Professor in Telecommunications Engineering at Link Campus University since 2024.

In 2004, he attained a Degree in Telecommunications Engineering at La Sapienza University in Rome. Since 2005, he worked for a year as a YGT in the Telecom department of the European Space Agency ESA/ESTEC in Noordwijk, Netherlands. 

Moreover, in 2009 he attained the qualification of PhD in Systems and Technologies for Space at the University of Rome “Tor Vergata”, carrying out a semester abroad at the University of California, Los Angeles - UCLA (CA-USA), and discussing a doctoral thesis entitled “Integration of Terrestrial and Satellite Networks”. He also earned a second-level master's degree “Homeland Security - Systems, Methods and Tools for Security and Crisis Management” at the University Campus Bio Medico in Rome in 2012.

He continued his research activities in the ICT/telecommunications field, particularly in the area of Satellite Systems and 5G networks, through numerous collaborations, research assignments, research grants, coordinating (Scientific Lead, Technical Lead, work package leader) and performing technical and research and development (R&D) activities related to more than 30 funded projects. He was, in particular, a fixed-term researcher (RTD-A) for 5 years, starting in 2019, at the Department of Electronic Engineering, University of Rome “Tor Vergata”.

Currently, he is a member of the teaching staff of the following courses: “Sistemi Satellitari”, “Laboratorio di configurazione e gestione di Reti Locali”, “Fondamenti di Telecomunicazione”, “Laboratorio di segnali”, “Tecnologie della Comunicazione”, “Reti di telecomunicazioni”. Furthermore, he participated as a speaker in several international conferences and seminar.

He is founding member, vice-president and CTO of the university spin-off Universitario RomARS s.r.l., which is involved in technology transfer, research and development, and implementation of virtual network components for advanced networks and 5G.
