Gianluca Costa is Associate Professor of General Surgery (MED/18) at Link Campus University.
He graduated at the University of Rome “La Sapienza” in 1987 where he also obtained the title of PhD (8th Cycle) in Experimental Methodologies and Technologies Applied to Surgery after specializing in General Surgery at the University of Rome “Tor Vergata”. During his tenures as medical director in Hospitals of primary national importance, without ever neglecting general surgery in elective care, he turned his attention predominantly toward Emergency and Trauma Surgery. Within this context, on several occasions he coordinated the development of corporate guidelines and the drafting of specific PDTAs while also directing training programs in Emergency Surgery for medical and healthcare professions. He acted as Tutor of Medical and health professions students and general surgery residents at the Faculty of Medicine and Psychology of the University of Rome “Sapienza” based at the Sant'Andrea Hospital. For the same students, he also acted as correlator of Degree and Specialization Degrees with topics related to Trauma and Emergency Surgery; conceived and implemented the “Trauma Registry” project of the Sant'Andrea Hospital in Rome which granted him the Research Grant award as Best Poster presented at the Second GREAT International Network Congress.
In recent years, also thanks to an appointment from 0ASL Umbria2, he turned his clinical and scientific interest to advanced minimally invasive surgery with particular regard to 3D technology and robotic surgery. Since 2020, thanks to the particular expertise he has acquired in Emergency Surgery, he was recruited by Fondazione Policlinico Campus Bio-Medico in Rome, which houses the homonymous University, where he is a professor at the School of Specialization in General Surgery and Coordinator for the Organization of Surgical Activities in Urgency of the Surgery Center.
He is and has been Study Director and PI of national and international research projects involving minimally invasive surgery, colorectal surgery, and emergency surgery.
He is a member of National Scientific Societies, and took part in various Conferences as Lecturer and member of Scientific Committees; he is a member of the Board of Directors of the Italian Society of Emergency Surgery and Trauma; he carried out a remarkable surgical and scientific activity evidenced by various articles published in journals with significant Impact Factor.
