Marika Guerra

Researcher

Link Campus University - Rome

Marika Guerra is currently a researcher (RTT) at LINK Campus University. She attained a PhD in Neuroscience at the Catholic University of the Sacred Heart in Rome, where she conducts research at the Department of Neuroscience, Human Anatomy Section.

Her scientific activity focuses on investigating the molecular mechanisms underlying neurodegenerative diseases, neurodevelopmental disorders (spinal muscular atrophy, multiple sclerosis, Parkinson's disease, autism spectrum disorders, Friedrich's ataxia) and brain tumors (medulloblastoma, neuroblastoma, glioblastoma). Her research is based on the use of advanced cellular models, including primary neuron and motor neuron cultures and organoids derived from stem cells. One of the main objectives of his research is to identify biomarkers and new therapeutic targets in human diseases through the understanding of molecular mechanisms.

She authored several publications in international peer-reviewed journals and is Principal Investigator of a project funded by AFM-Téléthon on the study of the functional role of circular RNAs of the SMN gene in SMA motor neuron differentiation. She teaches and tutors in undergraduate courses in the biomedical field.
