Dr. Miriam Longo is a Tenure Track Researcher in Endocrinology and Metabolic Diseases (MEDS-08/A) at the Department of Department of Life Sciences, Health and Health Professions at Link Campus University, Rome.
In 2017, she graduated in Medicine and Surgery at the University of Campania “Luigi Vanvitelli”, enriching her training with an Erasmus internship at the Department of Endocrinology and Metabolic Diseases at the Kremlin-Bicêtre Hospital, University Paris Sud, France. In 2023, she completed her specialisation in Endocrinology and Metabolic Diseases with honours and, in 2025, she obtained a PhD in Translational Medicine with honours at the University of Campania “Luigi Vanvitelli”.
During her specialization course, she carried out a research period at the Center for Clinical Metabolic Research of the University of Copenhagen, as well as an external training period at the Campus Biomedico in Rome, analyzing the emerging complications of diabetes mellitus, the role of intestinal hormones in bone metabolism, the effects of incretin hormones on cognitive functions, as well as the diagnosis and follow-up of thyroid diseases.
She collaborates with several research groups both at a national and an international level. She is a member of several scientific society, such as the Italian Society of Diabetology SID), the European Association for the Study of Diabetes (EASD), the Italian Society of Endocrinology (SIE) and the Italian Society of Andrology and Sexual Medicine (SIAMS).
She authored several publications on international scientidic journals. She presented several abstracts at major national and international scientific congresses. She contributed as co-author to chapters in the book "Endocrinologia & Malattie del Metabolismo" (Idelson Gnocchi, editions 2021 and 2024).
Her research activity includes the treatment of type 1 and 2 diabetes mellitus with the use of innovative drugs and state-of-the-art technologies, emerging cardiovascular and neurological complications of diabetes, metabolic bone diseases, pharmacological treatments of osteoporosis, as well as the diagnosis and follow-up of thyroid and andrological diseases. Furthermore, she is interested in immuno-endocrinology, with a focus on the search for antibodies directed against target endocrine glands.
Throughout her career, she received several awards, including the "Parma Diabete" Medal promoted by SID, the Rising Star Under 35" award promoted by SIE, as well as important recognitions from the European Association for the Study of Diabetes.
