Simona Camero is a Tenure Track Researcher in Molecular Biology BIO/11 at Link Campus University in Rome. She graduated with honours from Sapienza University of Rome with a Bachelor's degree in Biotechnology in 2012, a Master's Degree in Medical Biotechnology - Biomolecular curriculum - in 2014 and a PhD in Human Biology and Medical Genetics in 2018.

In 2020 she attained the qualification as a Biologist and since 2021 has been duly registered in the professional register of the National Order of Biologists - Section A. In the first years of her research activity, carried out at the Department of Paediatrics of the Sapienza University of Rome, she focused on the study of molecular mechanisms involved in the development and progression of solid tumours, in particular rhabdomyosarcoma.

She actively participated in several research projects with the aim of identifying new genetic/epigenetic targets for the optimisation of current therapeutic protocols through the development of new molecularly targeted drugs. In addition, she contributed to the understanding of molecular pathways mediating intrinsic and acquired resistance to radiotherapy.

More recently, she developed protocols for the maintenance of three-dimensional (3D) tumour spheroids in culture and currently, at the Laboratory of Cellular Biotechnology of the Department of Experimental Medicine, Sapienza University of Rome, she is developing new approaches of personalised medicine through advanced 3D models under dynamic conditions for the implementation of regenerative medicine protocols. She is author of 27 publications in international scientific journals and reviewer for several indexed scientific journals. She is a member of the Italian Translational Research and Health Professions Society (S.I.R.T.E.P.S.) and the Italian Organ-on-Chip Society (SIOoC).
