Dr. Alessandra Fusco is a fixed-term Researcher in Microbiology and Clinical Microbiology (SSD MED/07). In 2004, she attained a degree in Pharmacy at the University of Naples “Federico II”. In 2007, she attained a PhD in Environmental Microbiology and Cutaneous Ecosystem at the then Second University of Naples, now University of Campania '“Luigi Vanvitelli”.

Between 2011 and 2017 she was a teaching assistant for the discipline of Microbiology at the University of Campania “Luigi Vanvitelli”.

In 2013 she attained the license to practice the profession of pharmacist at the 'University of Naples “Federico II”.

From 2004 to the present date, she has worked at the University of Campania '“Luigi Vanvitelli” as an adjunct professor, Scholar and Research Fellow.

In 2023, she was awarded the National Scientific Qualification for the position of Associate Professor in the Competition Sector 06/A3- Microbiology and Clinical Microbiology.

Her Research activity is mainly related to the study of the intestinal microbiota and microorganism-host interactions, with particular interest in pathogenetic mechanisms (biofilm formation, bacterial adhesion and invasion, expression and production of virulence factors) and innate immunity. Furthermore she cultivates an interdisciplinary scientific approach through numerous national and international collaborations, which have also involved her in Horizon 2020 and Euronanomed projects.

She has authored 60 publications, 3 book chapters, with an H-index of 21 and 1253 citations, is a regular peer-reviewer and serves on the editorial boards of several journals including some that are part of the MDPI and Frontiers group.He has achieved achievements in the field of technology transfer, with imminent patent filing.
