Prof. Antonio Facchiano graduated with honors in Medicine at the University Federico II, Naples in 1987 and specialized in Oncology in 1991. He began his scientific career with a three-year research fellowship as a Fogarty Fellow at the NICHD-NIH in Bethesda, USA.
Subsequently, he gained significant experience in the biotechnology field as a researcher at a biotechnology company and as a visiting scientist in U.S. oncology laboratories, including those of Prof. Carlo M. Croce at Thomas Jefferson University.
Since 1996 he has been Medical Director at the Istituto Dermopatico dell'Immacolata (IDI-IRCCS) in Rome, where he founded and coordinated activities in the laboratories of Vascular Pathology and Molecular Oncology. At the same time, he carried out an intense academic activity as a professor in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology at Tor Vergata University and, since 2025, at Link Campus University as Associate Professor of Molecular Biology. He has held teaching positions in masters and advanced training courses in oncology and dermatology. His ASN qualifications cover several scientific-disciplinary areas, including Oncology, Applied Biology, General Pathology and Clinical Biochemistry.
Prof. Antonio Facchiano is actively involved in translational scientific research with a strong focus on melanoma and proliferative skin diseases. He has coordinated several national and international research projects, both funded by the Ministry of Health and under the PNRR, including PENCIL and ARTOO, focused on diagnostic and therapeutic innovation. He is the scientific leader of several ethics committee-approved clinical trials, as well as having directed initiatives to promote cancer prevention, such as the IDIalogues project, which, since 2017 has involved about nine thousand students.
Since 2018, he has been a member of the organizing committee of the European Society for Translational Medicine, where he serves as Secretary General. He is also active in scientific and academic dissemination as Guest Editor for international journals, including Cancers, Biomedicines and Biomolecules. He serves as Reviewer and Academic Editor for PLOS ONE and participated in numerous academic committees, including those for the awarding of grants and doctoral examinations.
He is currently a member of the IDI-IRCCS Scientific Technical Committee, head of the IDI-IRCCS Grant Office and Technology Transfer Office, and scientific coordinator for LILT Rome. His commitment also extends to bioethics, as a member of the Animal Welfare Board (OPBA) and the Care-Related Infections Committee of the IDI-IRCCS. Finally, he has received significant awards, including the Adriano Olivetti Award for the IDIaloghi educational project, and has participated in international training paths of excellence such as “Entrepreneurs in Clinical Academia” at INSEAD Business School.

The professor is available to receive the students at the end of the lessons. However, the students may also request an appointment by email.
