Davide Orsini is a medical historian and scientific museologist, Associate Professor of History of Medicine (SSD MEDS-02/C) at Link Campus University.
He has a multidisciplinary background combining humanities and medical-scientific disciplines and his studies are characterized by a historical-humanistic approach to science, with the purpose of restoring the subjectivity that today's technological civilization seems to limit.
His research activity is mainly related to the historical evolution of concepts of illness and treatment and the relationship between doctor and patient, Medical Humanities, the history of mental illness and concepts of stigma and Othering, the history of infectious diseases, and medical ethics with a particular focus on end-of-life care.
He is an Adjunct Professor of History of Medicine at the University of Siena since 2019. At the same university, he was director of the Siena University Museum System from 2015 to 2025.
He participated as speaker at several conferences and authored over 50 publications in high-impact journals in the fields of medical history, medical humanities and scientific museology, as well as the books A fianco del paziente. Educare a prendersi cura del malato (anche negli ultimi giorni di vita) (2024) and La lente distorta della società. Malattia, violazione dell’ordine sociale e stigma tra XIX and XXI secolo (2023).
He is a founding member of the Italian Society of Human Sciences in Medicine (SISUMed); Ordinary Member of the Firmano Study for the History of Medical Art and Science; Member of the Italian Society of History of Medicine; Member of the Academy of Sciences of Siena, known as de' Fisiocritici.
OFFICE HOURS
The professor is available to receive the students at the end of the lessons. However, the students may also request an appointment by email.
