Since May 2024, Dr. Giuseppina Catanzaro is Associate Professor (SSD MED/04) at Link Campus University. Dr. Catanzaro attained a PhD at the University of Teramo, working on the endocannabinoid system, focusing in particular on the action of the endocannabinoid system in oncology. Subsequently, she was the winner of an international selection announced by the Bracco Foundation and worked as principal investigator in a project focused on the study of cancer cell metabolism. Between 2014 and 2023, she worked in the Department of Experimental Medicine at Sapienza University in Rome dealing with molecular and clinical aspects of various human diseases, ranging from solid tumors of children and adults to metabolic diseases. Specifically, she focused on the role of non-coding RNAs both as therapeutic targets and as diagnostic, prognostic, and predictive biomarkers.
Dr. Catanzaro authored 58 publications on international peer-reviewed journals with H-index 24 and a total citation count of 1646. In addition, Dr. Catanzaro has authored 20 publications as first or co-first author and 5 publications as corresponding/co-corresponding or last/co-last author (Source: Scopus).
Dr. Catanzaro's scientific interests include:
1. Analysis of molecular mechanisms involved in the development and growth of solid tumors, with special interest toward pediatric brain tumors;
2. Study of molecular mechanisms responsible for therapy resistance in solid tumors;
3. Identification of diagnostic, prognostic, and predictive biomarkers, with a focus on the role of microRNAs as biomarkers of disease;
4. Study of innovative nanodelivery systems for drug therapies and RNA drugs.
5. Analysis of molecular mechanisms and microRNAs as diagnostic, prognostic and predictive biomarkers in endocrine-metabolic diseases.
