Manuela Montanaro is currently a Tenure Track Researcher in the Disciplinary Scientific Area of Pathological Anatomy - MEDS/04 (formerly MED/08) at the Department of Life Sciences, Health and Health Professions, Link University. Previously, Dr. Montanaro carried out research activities as a Type A Fixed-Term Researcher (RTdA) in Technical Sciences of Laboratory Medicine - MEDS/26A (formerly MED/46) at the Department of Biomedicine and Prevention, University of Rome Tor Vergata.

Coming from a long research background in histology and pathologic anatomy, Manuela Montanaro has mainly focused on carotid atherosclerotic disease and the possible impact of specific cardiovascular risk factors on the onset and evolution of this pathology. While conducting this study, Dr. Montanaro also investigated the possible role of environmental and occupational pollution on carotid atherosclerotic plaque destabilization. In parallel, Dr. Montanaro has collaborated with other laboratories, contributing to studies on oncological diseases and tissue regeneration, also employing mouse models. Therefore, Manuela Montanaro's scientific activity is focused on new prognostic and predictive markers of carotid atherosclerotic disease and some oncological diseases, such as breast, prostate and skin cancer.

During her research activity conducted under the PE12 Extended Partnership of the PNRR (CUP E83C22004710001), entitled A multiscale integrated approach to the study of the nervous system in health and disease - MNESYS, under thematic area 12, namely Neuroscience and Neuropharmacology, Dr.Montanaro also collaborated for some studies on the most common neurodegenerative diseases, such as Alzheimer's and Parkinson's, with the aim of identifying new biomarkers useful for early diagnosis and/or prognostic and predictive. During her Ph.D. in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, Manuela Montanaro was able to actively contribute to an important international scientific collaboration established with Indivumed, a German company dealing with precision oncology.

Finally, Dr. Montanaro has also been able to support students during their internship and attendance period for the production of dissertation papers. Manuela Montanaro is Guest Editor of 4 Special Issues, reviewer for some MDPI circuit journals and author of 33 scientific publications indexed on SCOPUS, with an H-index of 15. Main Research Interests follow - Prognostic and predictive biomarkers in neurodegenerative, cardiovascular and oncological diseases. - New therapeutic targets in atherosclerotic disease and oncological diseases. - Impact of environmental and occupational pollution on human health.
