Samuele Sabbatini is Associate Professor of Microbiology and Clinical Microbiology (GSD 06/MEDS-03, SSD MEDS-03/A) at Link Campus University, Rome.

His research activity focuses on the intersection between Microbiology, Clinical Microbiology, and Biotechnology, with a prevalence in the following areas:

Infections and Antimicrobial Resistance (AMR) and Biofilms: research into the development of new strategies to combat multidrug-resistant (MDR) bacteria and microbial biofilms. He has collaborated on projects such as BactEradiX (HORIZON-EIC), focused on the anti-biofilm activity of peptide nucleic acids. He has also studied the effectiveness of antibiotic combinations against Staphylococcus aureus and Klebsiella pneumoniae.

Infections and Mucosal Microbiota (Fungal and Bacterial): study of the role of probiotics (particularly those based on Saccharomyces cerevisiae) in the prevention and treatment of vaginal infections (such as vulvovaginal candidiasis and bacterial vaginosis) and oropharyngeal infections. It explored the interaction between Candida albicans virulence factors, resident microbiota, and the host immune response, particularly the role of the NLRP3 inflammasome.

Clinical Virology (SARS-CoV-2/COVID-19): He actively contributed to pandemic research by studying the efficacy of antiviral drugs and combinations (remdesivir, nirmatrelvir, nelfinavir). Furthermore, he evaluated vaccine response in different patient cohorts and the virus's persistence on different surfaces following UV treatment.

His scientific output includes numerous publications in high-impact peer-reviewed international journals. (https://www.scopus.com/authid/detail.uri?authorId=56601303100). He is active in the scientific community as Associate Editor/Review Editor for the journals Frontiers in Microbiology and Frontiers in Cellular and Infection Microbiology, and as Section Board Member for the journal Microorganisms.
