Endovascular treatment of cerebral and spinal vascular pathologies has experienced extraordinary growth in recent years, radically transforming the approach to complex neurovascular pathologies. The European Master in Vascular and Endovascular Neurosurgery was created in order to provide a response to such a rapidy evolving scenario. Its training programme of excellence was especially designed for candidates who wish to play a leading role in the future of cerebrovascular treatment.

The learning pathway is aimed at neurosurgical residents (PGY 4 or 5) and specialists who wish to acquire solid practical and theoretical competence in microsurgery and endovascular treatment of brain and spinal pathologies. The programme is also open to neurologists with a concrete interest in endovascular treatment, confirming the interdisciplinary character of modern neurovascular medicine.

While microsurgery remains fundamental - particularly for complex aneurysms or reconstructions with reimplants, in situ bypasses or extracranial-intracranial techniques - the extraordinary evolution of endovascular techniques is now the beating heart of the discipline. The future of vascular neurosurgery is inseparable from that of endovascular therapy: excelling in this field today means mastering both scalpel and catheter.

And not only that: endovascular techniques are progressively expanding their horizons, allowing minimally invasive treatments for conditions beyond the vascular domain, including:

  • Chronic subdural haematomas (cSDH),
  • Tumours (such as retinoblastoma, and in the future also glioblastoma),
  • Headaches
  • Hydrocephalus (thanks to innovative solutions such as the eShunt system),
  • Even endovascular brain-computer interfaces (such as the Stentrode) for patients with severe paralysis.

The Master offers comprehensive, practical and customized training:

  • 150 hours of theoretical training and advanced simulations,
  • 800 hours of intensive practical training,
  • Possibility to choose one of 11 affiliated centres throughout Europe, selected for clinical excellence, number of cases and variety of pathologies treated*.

*to be confirmed once the Agreements for the aforementioned centres have been signed

Target students and career opportunities

The Master is aimed at neurosurgical residents (preferably in their 4th or 5th year) and specialists interested in developing advanced skills in microsurgery and/or endovascular treatment of brain and spinal pathologies. It is also open to neurologists with a particular interest in endovascular, with a view to increasing multidisciplinary integration. Upon completion of the course, the candidates will be able to work in highly specialized centres, both in public and private hospital settings, nationally and internationally.

Admission Requirements

In order to be admitted to the Academic Master, the candidates must have attained a Specialist Degree, a Master's Degree and/or a Degree of the old university system, awarded by a University of the Italian Republic, another equivalent Higher Education Institute, or another equivalent qualification awarded by international universities, provided that they are legally recognized in Italy.

Candidates with an academic qualification attained abroad must be in possession of the declaration of the value of the qualification attained, issued by the competent Italian diplomatic or consular representations of the country in which they attained the qualification.

The requirements must be possessed and demonstrated on the date of expiry of the call for applications, under penalty of non-admission to the admission test for the Master.

Tuition

The annual tuition for the registration to the Master is 8.000 €.

Enrolment

Students wishing to enrol may request an appointment with the Postgraduate Office by sending an email to: segreteriapostgraduate@unilink.it

Faculty

The candidates will be supervised by an international faculty of world-renowned vascular and endovascular neurosurgeons, ready to share expertise, real-world clinical experience and cutting-edge operative strategies.

The course is sponsored by WFNS (World Federation of Neurosurgical Societies) and UEMS (European Union of Medical Specialists), confirming its global relevance and prestige.

All those who want to be protagonists of the future of vascular neurosurgery must start building it today.

The European Master in Vascular and Endovascular Neurosurgery will offer the tools, tutors and experience to do so.
