Mercoledì 7 febbraio 2018 nella Sala Umberto di via della Mercede 50 a Roma si è tenuta la Giornata Culturale Araba, con lo slogan scelto dall’Associazione ItaliArabi “La cultura sia uno strumento di pace”.
L'obiettivo della giornata è stato quello di creare un’occasione per avvicinare alla conoscenza della cultura araba, nella sua complessità storica e politica, senza la riduzione a stereotipi con lo scopo di favorire il dialogo tra cultura abara e l'occidente.
Polis, la Scuola universitaria per la formazione politica dell'Università degli studi Link Campus University ha partecipato all'iniziativa convinta del fatto che la politica, nella definizione più ambia di "polis" quale spazio pubblico al quale tutti i cittadini partecipano, deve farsi promotrice dell'integrazione sociale, del rispetto delle differenza e dell'apertura al dialogo.
Alla Giornata Culturale Araba sono intervenuti professori universitari, giornalisti ed esponenti delle istituzioni (Hassan Abouyoub ambasciatore del Marocco, Milena Santerini della Commissione Culturale Senato e Delegata presso il Consiglio d’Europa, Luciano Violante, Presidente della Fondazione Italiadecide).
A conclusione dell’evento si è tenuto il concerto del maestro Ahmed Fathi.

Women kill less frequently, and most often kill those closest to them, right in their homes.
But a new study of female murderers behind bars in Italy shows the ones who are caught and punished have a slightly higher rate of severe personality disorders than their male killer counterparts, according to a recent paper in the Journal of Forensic Research.
Twenty-four of the 30 prisoners surveyed in prison were diagnosed with a severe personality disorder—either borderline personality disorder, schizotypal personality disorder or paranoid personality disorder.
The examination of the 30 prisoners accounts for a quarter of the 120 women convicted of homicide in the European country. (Females only represent 2 percent of the convicted killers in the country, as opposed to the 10 percent generally seen in other Western countries.)
The author, Paola Giannetakis of the Link Campus University in Rome, met the 30 prisoners, who consented to take part in the question-and-answer session. The technique used was the Millon Clinical Multiaxial Inventory-III, or MCMI-III. That technique is designed to fit within the standard DSM framework, and it involves 175 true-false questions administered over roughly 30 minutes.
The women were between the ages of 21 and 52, they were all white Caucasian, and none had a college degree.
Lining up with other research, nearly all the killers (28) had taken the life of an intimate partner, and most (26) had killed in their own home.
The personality disorders among the group of killers ran the gamut of problematic behaviors.
Thirteen of the women had borderline personality disorder, a condition marked mostly by emotional instability, and distorted self-image of being defective, according to the study. It is particularly marked by impulsivity including self-destructive behaviors like suicide attempts, as well as substance abuse.
Six women had paranoid personality disorder, which is marked by perception of threats and plots against the sufferer that don’t actually exist.
Another five of the killers had schizotypal personality disorder, a condition in which subjects are socially and emotionally detached, including eccentricities in communication like those seen in schizophrenia.
The roughly 80 percent of the relatively small sample size of prisoners is similar to a massive 2002 study looking at serious mental disorders in prison populations. The Lancet study looked at 23,000 prisonersthrough the lens of 62 surveys from 12 countries. The rate of personality disorders among the prison population was 65 percent.
However, other recent studies have confirmed the rate of women having a severe mental disorder at the time of their crimes, as demonstrated in an analysis of 20 years of Swedish homicides published in 2016 in the International Journal of Forensic Mental Health.
But Giannetakis concludes that the vast majority of people with severe personality disorders do not kill. Consequently, the severe personality disorders diagnosed among these women behind bars were just a factor in the homicides.
“The percentage of women who have killed and who do not show signs of pervasive personality disorders demonstrate that personality disorder holds a secondary role and not a causative direct role in the will to kill,” she writes. “Murder is more closely linked to the way relationships are experienced than to personality pathology that instead represents the layout and the frame in which they have evolved and structured over time.”

Uscito il libro dei prof. Nicola Ferrigni e Marica Spalletta dal titolo REDDITANZA. Il reddito di cittadinanza raccontato dai giornali e percepito dai cittadini. Il libro contiene i risultati della prima ricerca universitaria condotta in Italia che – attraverso l’analisi di due anni e mezzo di articoli giornalistici e una survey rivolta agli italiani – studia il tema del reddito di cittadinanza con l’obiettivo di comprendere le “relazioni pericolose” tra il giornalismo, la politica e i processi di formazione dell’opinione pubblica.
Il libro sarà presentato martedì 6 febbraio, alle ore 17:00, alla Camera dei Deputati. A discuterne con gli autori, saranno la senatrice Nunzia Catalfo (prima firmataria della proposta di legge per l’introduzione del reddito di cittadinanza in Italia) e i giornalisti Luca De Carolis (Il Fatto Quotidiano), Gavin Jones (Reuters), Manuela Perrone (Il Sole 24 Ore), Constanze Reuscher (Die Welt) e il Presidente di Basic Income Network Italia, Luca Santini. Il dibattito sarà moderato dal Alberto Di Majo, giornalista de Il Tempo e autore di Love Politik.
Interverrà Roberta Lombardi, Portavoce del Movimento 5 Stelle alla Camera dei Deputati e candidata alla Presidenza della Regione Lazio.

L'incontro “PYEONGCHANG 2018. LA DIPLOMAZIA SPORTIVA IN FAVORE DELLA PACE" è stata l'occasione per trattare il tema dello sport come strumento universale per promuovere la pace tra popoli. Il dibattito, infatti, ha posto l'accento sulle prossime Olimpiadi invernali Pyeongchang 2018, in cui la Corea del Sud e la Corea del Nord sfileranno sotto la stessa bandiera e con un'unica squadra mista di hockey femminile.
L'evento ha inaugurato l'insegnamento di Diplomazia sportiva, unicum nel panorama delle università italiane, che dal prossimo semestre sarà attivo all'interno del corso di laurea in Economia dello sport. Le lezioni saranno tenute dai proff. Mario Pescante e Pietro Mei.

LCU to use regional funds to advance research and innovation
Research and innovation are central to the development and growth of any society and Link Campus University is strongly engaged in working across disciplines to contribute in addressing global challenges of XXI century.
We are proud to announce that LCU won funding from the three Italian Regions to advance research and inspire innovation in several sectors, including textile and fashion, innovative building systems, agriculture, ICT, and clinical support.
The research projects include 2 projects in Puglia (HINT, ChemTag), 2 in Lazio (ePOP-ZEB, Agri Drone) and 1 in Sardinia (PANGEA). Each project comprises the creation of a Research and Development unit and other facilities needed to support cutting-edge research.
Projects in detail
HINT is designed to satisfy needs for the creation of a clinical support network. It intends to set up a platform managing all cases which involve access to diagnostic images offering application of specific skills even not physically detectable on the production site of the images themselves.
ChemTag intends to develop a service tailored to the needs of companies working in the textile and clothing industries in the Puglia Region. This service consists of Cloud traceability of chemical analysis certified according to UNI EN, DIN, ISO, AATCC standards of raw materials, semi-finished and finished products in the textile field. The project aims to develop an innovative method of chemical traceability allowing added value to the textile logistics supply chain, expanding the boundaries compared to the traditional one.
ePOP-ZEB involves the construction of an innovative building system for assembling modular wooden buildings (ePOP House) integrated with a Smart platform optimising energy management and with a BIM (Building Information Modeling) system that shows a digital representation of physical and functional characteristics of the building components. The project can be divided into 3 primary subprojects aiming at studying and creating prototypes developed jointly between the companies and the research centres.
The AgroDroneVision project focuses on the creation and development of an Integrated and Intelligent System for innovative applications with a high level of knowledge in the Precision Agriculture sector. The Integrated System is made of 3 main subsystems: Drone system Monitoring System Sensor System
Through this innovative system, the project intends to develop and validate a non-destructive method of qualitative-quantitative evaluation of open field crops in real-time and acquisition of high-resolution images integrated with information collected from various sensors. Such techniques have never been used in this field until today, mainly because of high costs and intrinsic difficulties related to their use.
PANGEA project contributes to the Information and Communication Technology (ICT) sector creating an integrated system of knowledge and skills advancing innovation in the theme park sector.
The project assumes that the current operational configuration of theme parks addresses 4 fundamental elements:
The attractions in themselves conceived as self-sufficient islands with specific play and theme purposes; The backstage of monitoring and control The features of widespread setting and thematization, (mostly consisting of sound environments and multimedia shows at times and on fixed occasions, which provide the system with an experiential glue able to accentuate the immersion perceived by visitors and their identification in the supporting themes) The processes of virtual museum that intends to give a transmedia communication approach aimed at extending the experience even after the complete visit.
The project intends to work on all 4 elements, advancing innovation in the sector.

The engagement with cryptocurrency and its underlying record-keeping technology appears to be ever growing. Link Campus University couldn’t be left behind in this great global engagement. On Wednesday, Jan 24, LCU presented its own cryptocurrency LinkCoin and distributed it among its students and guests. In doing so, LCU joined a growing list of global higher education institutions which have embraced the digital currency.
LinkCoin was created in the Link Campus University Research Centre directed by Dr Carlo Maria Medaglia. As of today, anyone can use LinkCoin to purchase some gadgets for Android and iOS. In the future, the goal of the developers is to accept cryptocurrency for tuition and other fees in the university.
LCU first digital currency was presented at the conference Blockchain: The Past, Present and Future held in the Antica Biblioteca in the Maner of San Pio V. Cryptocurrency, blockchain technology, the tax treatment of Bitcoin, and much more were discussed at the session with the participation of Dr Vincenzo Vespri, University of Florence, Dr Piergiorgio Valente, Prof. of EU Fiscal Law and International Tax Law at LCU, Dr Carlo Maria Medaglia, Rector for Research at LCU, Dr Salvatore Rapuano, Prof. of Criminal Law at LCU, Dr Walter Matta, LCU.
