Videogames

The Videogames learning pathway, delivered in italian, is the first and only one in Italy. It aims to provide an overview of the gaming industry and the skills required to pursue a career and capture the opportunities of a global and constantly growing sector. In particular, this curriculum aims to train the professional figure of the '"Video games and interactive media specialist"; a figure recognized and in high demand by companies operating in the video game industry.

The approach to training is based on the philosophy of learning by doing: providing solid theoretical foundations but always usable to complete what is professionally required in the gaming industry. The course of study is enriched with qualified company internships and experimental workshops.

The Videogames learning pathway ranges from the more technical and creative aspects related to game development (game design, concept art and art direction, 3D modeling and animation, programming, sound design and audio post-production, interactive storytelling, etc.) to those related to business, more pertaining to the humanities and economics (game publishing, marketing, communication, press office and PR management, video game journalism and criticism, product management, etc.).

The degree course employs a teaching staff entirely selected from leading professionals working at the highest levels of industry in Italy and abroad.

In order to be admitted to the Degree Course, it is necessary to hold an upper secondary school diploma or other qualification obtained abroad, recognized as suitable by current regulations. At the same time, the students must possess adequate knowledge of general culture and logic-mathematics, as well as text comprehension skills.

Furthermore, required knowledge and language skills consistent with the language of delivery of the Course of Study and/or individual curriculum.

The verification of the possession of the knowledge required for access is done by means of an assessment test. The verification of the possession of the knowledge required for access is done by means of an appropriate test. In case of failure, the student must fulfil the following additional training obligations through compulsory attendance of special remedial course(s) and passing the relevant final test(s)

The course supports students through 4 different types of tutoring:

  1. Orientation and transversal tutoring, carried out by Education Coordinators, aimed at supporting the students in the reception phase, introducing them into the university life, monitoring their learning pathway, motiving them throughout the course (with special reference to the planned results), supporting them in bureaucratic procedures, the latter in collaboration with the Student Administration Office;

  2. international tutoring, carried out by the International Office, which wil offer personalized assistance to both international students enrolled in the degree course and Erasmus students;

  3. didactic tutoring, provided by the didactic support staff (teaching assistants, doctoral students, holders of supplementary teaching contracts, etc.), who will support the students with supplementary teaching activities related to the specific subjects of the learning pathways;

  4. specialized tutoring, carried out by Education Coordination for inclusion, aimed at students with disabilities or specific learning disorders and special educational needs, aimed at reducing the obstacles that might prevent their full integration in the academic environment.

The workshop activities are designed as moments of learning by doing, through which the students will acquire and/or refine soft skills (team work, problem solving, leadership, communication skills, etc.), increasingly fundamental in the labour maket.

Active workshops 24/25:

Innovation and Digital:

  • Human Computer Interaction
  • Social media
  • Digital Filmaking and video production

The Course of Study reserves special credits for orientation training internships, to be carried out within the University, as well as internships and apprenticeships at institutions, agencies, organizations and foundations, companies.

The final dissertation consists in the discussion, before a special committee, of a written paper prepared under the guidance of a professor, on a topic related to a discipline in which the student has taken an examination.

While not requiring specific characteristics of originality, the paper should demonstrate the acquired mastery of the analytical tools learned in the course of study, the ability to integrate the diversified disciplinary knowledge learned, as well as the communication skills suitable for a fruitful entry into the labour market and/or the continuation of the educational path in the two-year master's degree program.

The paper may be written and discussed in Italian and/or English.

The manner of conducting the final examination and its timing are defined in the academic calendar, published on the University website and communicated by the Student Administration Office.
