Teaching

Technologies and languages of communication (LM-59)

The aim of the Master's Degree Course in Technologies and languages of communication is to train professionals with solid skills in the field of digital communication and innovation; professionals capable of inserting themselves, in a transversal way, in different work fields where they will go to act, with functions of high responsibility, as experts in the wide sphere of transformation introduced by innovation and digital communication.

The educational objectives of the course of study are translated into a strongly interdisciplinary approach aimed at integrating different cores of knowledge. Upon completion of the course of study, the students will have acquired a solid theoretical-methodological background for the analysis and understanding of complex socio-technical systems.

Even though the course is articulated into two learning pathways, it maintains a common methodology, in order to provide and share the characterizing and transversal disciplines for the acquisition of knowledge in the professional field, integrating disciplinary areas of socio-psycho-pedagogical, economic and computer science, with particular attention to the evolution of new digital languages, design techniques and the effects on people, organizations and society.

The educational approach adopted is modern and experiential: traditional academic lectures are complemented by seminars, project work, classroom testimonials with professionals from companies and institutions. The learning pathway is complemented by various workshop experiences, group work, and research projects aimed at developing in students soft skills, autonomy, self-direction, and the ability to work in groups and by objectives. Essential skills required for entry into the world of work.

CAREER OPPORTUNITIES

The students graduated in  Innovative technologies for digital communication operate in different organizational and social contexts, across all sectors of production. They can:

  • be employed in public agencies, private companies, research centers;

  • carry out freelance and consulting activities;

  • develop company spin-offs, start-ups and self-entrepreneurial projects.

Game development, marketing and communication

Realized in collaboration with VIGAMUS Academy

Programme leader Prof. Marco Accordi Rickards

The learning pathway Game development, marketing and communication is unique in Italy. It offers the opportunity to consolidate basic skills by addressing both the technical-creative dimension of the game industry and the business-related dimension, which is predominantly humanistic-economic (publishing, marketing and communication).

The learning pathway provides a comprehensive view of the different functional dimensions typical of the video game, exploring subjects ranging from the development of interactive works (game development & design, art direction, 3D and 2D graphics, sound design, etc.) to their promotion, communication and valorization (game marketing & game publishing, etc.), and even delving into specific areas such as the eSports frontier or the distribution of the video game product (retail and digital).

The teaching staff is comprised exclusively of highly qualified professionals in the game industry; thus, students will be guided through the course of education and specialization and acquire training focused on the needs of the market. The learning pathway integrates face-to-face teaching with thematic workshops aimed at experiencing the realities of the world of development studios and major publishers, as well as the challenges of an ever-changing system. During the second semester of the second year, the student are required to take a professional internship at companies, organizations or communication agencies.

Upon completion of the learning pathway, the student will be able to pursue the following professions:

➢ User Experience Designer

➢ Digital communication consultant for the video game industry.

➢ Game Designer

➢ Organizer of promotional events and trade shows dedicated to the video game product

The Course of Study supports the students through 4 different types of tutoring:

  1. Orientation and soft skill-aimed tutoring, carried out by the Educational Coordinator, who assists the students in the stages of orientation, insertion into university life, monitoring of the learning pathway and motivation (always having as a reference the planned results), support in the completion of bureaucratic procedures, the latter in collaboration with the Student Administration Office;

  2. international orientation tutoring, carried out by the International office, which offers personalized assistance to both international students enrolled in the Course of Study and Erasmus students;

  3. educational tutoring, entrusted to teaching support figures (teaching assistants, doctoral students, holders of supplementary teaching contracts, etc.), who support the students with supplementary teaching activities related to specific teachings;

  4. specialized tutoring, carried out by the Inclusion Education Coordinator, for students with disabilities or specific learning disorders (DSA) and special educational needs (BES), aimed at reducing the obstacles that could prevent their full inclusion in the university environment.

The workshop activities are designed as moments of learning by doing, through which the students will acquire and/or refine soft skills (team work, problem solving, leadership, communication skills, etc.), increasingly fundamental in the labour maket. Furthermore, workshops represent opportunities for in-depth experiential learning in direct contact with professionals in the field.

The Course of Study reserves special credits for orientation training internships, to be carried out within the University, as well as internships and apprenticeships at institutions, agencies, organizations and foundations, enterprises.

The final dissertation consists in the discussion, before a special committee, of a written paper prepared under the guidance of a professor, on a topic related to a discipline in which the student has taken an examination. While not requiring specific characteristics of originality, the paper should demonstrate the acquired mastery of the analytical tools learned in the course of study, the ability to integrate the diversified disciplinary knowledge learned, as well as the communication skills suitable for a fruitful entry into the labour market and/or the continuation of the educational path in the two-year master's degree program.

The paper may be written and discussed in Italian and/or English.

The manner of conducting the final examination and its timing are defined in the academic calendar, published on the University website and communicated by the Student Administration Office.
